About
Switzerland Falling Behind
Switzerland ranks second-to-last on both the European Tobacco Control Scale, which evaluates the implementation of prevention policies, and the Global Tobacco Industry Interference Index, which measures the industry’s influence over legislation. The country has yet to ratify the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, adopted by 183 countries. This delay is largely due to the presence of multinational tobacco and nicotine companies on Swiss soil, which deploy strategies to influence society and institutions.
An Initiative Born from Youth
TnT was born in 2018 from a participatory expedition bringing together young people from across Switzerland. Three of their key ideas—focused on transparency and combating the influence of the tobacco industry—led to the creation of this initiative.
A Core Part of the National Strategy
TnT is part of the 2025–2028 strategy of the Tobacco Prevention Fund (TPF), which aims to denormalize the tobacco and nicotine industries and strengthen health-promoting social norms. The initiative primarily targets health sector partners and follows the recommendations of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control regarding the protection of public policy and public awareness.
Within this strategic framework, the implementation mandate has been entrusted to OxySuisse, an organization committed to a Switzerland free from the tobacco industry’s influence. For over 20 years, OxySuisse has worked to protect public health. A multidisciplinary, dynamic, and determined team carries out this mandate in close collaboration with the TPF, with the goal of contributing to lasting change in favor of health and social equity.
